Our History

There are many good reasons to use a cattery for when you are away from home. Here , with our years of experience and veterinary knowledge, we can monitor exactly what is going on with your cat when they are with us. Here are some of our triumphs.

A very old cat walking in circles and seemingly blind to the water bowl or litter tray which he simply stumbled through, and certainly unable to negociate different levels. The owners assumed he had a touch of dementia and was just ;Getting Old’. He went into a single level space but after a day of observing him I made an appointment for a vet to check him over. The result – a deep inner ear infection. After several days treatment with antibiotics, anti inflamatories and extreme care, he walked normally, could jump and climb and seemed to shed years. No dementia, just a horrible infection.

A cat of uncertain age but a regular boarder. We noticed she was laying close to any air sources like the cat flap (indicating a high temperature) She was also unusually quiet and was eating awkwardly. When brown saliva began to run down her chin shortly after arrival, we consulted the vet. She had a broken canine tooth, probably sustained some days  or even weeks before and the cavity it had left was packed solid with rotting fur, the result of her frantically over-grooming because of the pain. Tooth removed, anti biotics prescribed, this cat blossomed once more. Glossy coat, playing, eating ravenously – the owners were very grateful for our swift action. The gross infection could have led to sepsis.

Any number of older cats have presented with depraved appetites but also weight loss. We nearly always reccommend a vet check and thyroid function blood test. An amazing number come back to us subsequently with thyroid meds for the condition owners have often put down to just advancing old age.

Another elderly cat was a disaster with the litter tray for his first couple of stays, needing two and a thick layer of newspaper to protect our floors. We cut out feeding wet food and the sloppy treats provided and switched the dry food from a standard maintenance to  only Gastro Intestinal. Not only did he love it, but immediately we were getting just two poos a day and those perfectly normal. He was an outside cat, no litter tray at home and the owners therefore had no idea that he had a constantly upset stomach and had put his wailing for more and more food down to again, old age.His appetite is normal now so they are saving money on his food as well.

A female cat with a long history of urine infections, without fail left regular stays with us, completely well but developed infections again within weeks of getting home. The owners asked what we did that led to a cessation of her symptoms, which in her case was not to feed dry biscuit, only a wet pouch several times a day. The cat has NEVER had another UTI since the owners adopted the same approach.

When a cat stays with us, we notice things. Irregularities are charted and reported. Vets are consulted immediately we are unhappy. Someone popping in to feed a cat an it’s own home, or leaving a cat with an automatic feeder can never offer the same close attention. Water intake is noted, litter tray contents monitored, behavioural anomolies spotted and potential conditions can be flagged up. Experienced Cattery Care makes sense
